S2 ‘Street Food Cook Off’ Competition

All S2 took part in a design and make competition for a new dish that could be sold in the new ‘Pod in the Quad’. It had to be served in a wrap, pitta or takeaway box. Many exciting new recipes were created and cooked in class.

2 winners from each class were challenged with a cook off on Wednesday 3rd May. All 14 winners cooked their dishes again in front of 4 judges from Aberdeen City School Catering:

  • Catering manager (John Landragon)
  • Melanie Rennie (Catering Team Leader)
  • Susan Baillie (Catering Advisor)
  • Marion Johnston (Oldmachar Academy Cook in charge)

The winners were a difficult choice as there were a lot of interesting ideas. In the end the winners announced were:

1st prize – Portia 2.1 with Stuffed Pitta Pork Salad

2nd prize – Daniel 2.3 with Garden Pork Fry up with Noodles

3rd prize – Millie 2.1 with Salmon and Vegetable Noodles

The winners have been given tokens for their House box. Their winning dishes will feature in the canteen’s ‘Pod in the Quad’ in the near future.
